In a recent study, it has been found that only 52% of Americans have below basic or basic reading skills. Majority of them could sign forms, watch shows in the TV guide, and compare prices of tickets for different events. Most cannot identify places on the map, compare viewpoints in editorials, and determine the food supplies cost from the catalog.

About 4% in the US are non-literate
